Shade 3D / Question: what is shear matrix ?
« on: May 29, 2016, 10:26:21 PM »
I was trying to export a MikuMikuDance model into FBX format.  Shade3D 15 Standard threw up a message saying it cannot export shear matrix, but the export completed.  The resulting FBX showed a mangled figure on loading.  So, my question is: what is a shear matrix and how to I correct it before exporting ?

Shade 3D / Poser 11 Cycles shader for Shade3D Hair Salon textures
« on: December 19, 2015, 12:53:03 AM »
The recent release of Poser Pro 11 has incorporated an adapted Cycles shader rendering system, which is based on the Blender Cycles.  I model polygon mesh hair using Shade3D and as we know, the transmaps are generated by Shade3D as well.  I have devised a solution for using the transmaps in combination with the hair colour maps generated by Natsukin-san's Kami Hair texture app.

Therefore, to use polygon hair created in Shade3D inside Poser Pro 11, use this Cycles shader tree (link goes to my DeviantArt Gallery showing this solution):

Shade 3D / Using Shade3D with official models from Japanese anime
« on: October 18, 2015, 07:12:04 PM »
Knights of Sidonia (  シドニアの騎士 ) is a Japanese anime series, and they have official 3D models of all their characters available commercially until end of 2015.  One of the models I got from them, is the PMD format of their character Kunato.  I used Shade3D to change the Japanese name parts into UTF-8 so that the exported FBX version can be read in Poser without crashing ! My target is to use the official models in Poser for fan art ( non-commercial fan art is allowed in the terms of use).  I also found Shade3D useful to extract the eyeballs of the figure.  For some reason, these were not logically separated in the FBX and could not be used inside Poser.  So, I found Shade3D specially useful for this situation.

( Please note that I processed the official PMD file inside Blender first, created the FBX file, then went into Shade3D for edit and check.)

My renders show the results for the Tsugumori giant mech cockpit, and for the figures of scientist Ochiai, hero Tanikaze, and industrialist Kunato.

Shade 3D / question about Keep Proportion
« on: October 04, 2015, 05:42:04 PM »
I note that I can set Keep Proportion for individual Polygon Meshes inside a Part, and also the whole Part section.  HOw does this make a difference, when I export to OBJ or STL ?

Shade 3D / My BJD Project
« on: October 03, 2015, 02:06:17 AM »
My personal project to create a figure whose geometry can be used in both Poser and for 3D printing, is summarised in this graphic (see attached).

I generated the figure using Terawell's Design Doll software.  For Poser use, I processed the geometry in Shade3D and in Poser Pro 2014 Game Dev version.  I then used PHIBuilder to generate a custom original rig for the figure, and finalised it inside Poser.  (I had to do some adjustments for the Joint Parameters).  For 3D Printing, I processed the geometry in Poser and Shade3D but instead of a rigged figure, I assembled the parts as props (that is, separate geometries with no rigging).  I then used Shade3D Boolean Operation to cut the holes I needed for real world 3D Printed Ball-Joint Doll parts.  I exported the STL files, and checked them in Windows 10 3D Builder software.  I realise that some post-printing manual work is still required, such as drilling holes for stringing, and of course, filing down.

Shade 3D / polygon mesh must be a Part before Boolean can work
« on: October 01, 2015, 01:48:00 PM »
I am learning how to use Boolean ops on my meshes.  I found that the polygon mesh must be inside a Part, otherwise, the Boolean operations options will be greyed out and cannot be used in the menus.

I just wanted to note this here, because I was not able to find any documentation on this point.

Gallery of Images / Used Shade3D to create a lot of these things...
« on: August 14, 2015, 01:10:19 AM »
I am more interested in anime-style renders nowadays, and I am also very disappointed with the division in the hobby 3D Cg world between Poser content and DAZ3D content, so I decided I shall use Shade3D more and forget about all the fighting among the community.  I found a very interesting software to generate anime-style figures: Terawell's Design Doll.  I used this to created my figure for my scenes, and I use Shade3D to create the other parts.  Here are some examples of what I have been doing this year.  ( Some content indeed is other people's such as the eye base texture for the anime figure, created by my internet friend Befanini.  Other textures were generated using Natukin's Kami Hair texture generator, and ParticleView image dump.)

Shade 3D / My Videos On How To Prep 3D Printing a BJD
« on: July 24, 2015, 10:21:50 PM »
Software used: Terawell Design-Doll to generate the anime-style figure.  Shade3D Standard to process the OBJ exported from Design-Doll.

I had originally bought Design-Doll to generate a variety of anime-style figures to rig and use inside Poser Pro 2014. Upon inspection of the OBJ exported from Design-Doll, I observed that the mesh was a composite, and could be broken up further into component parts.  Therefore, I imported the OBJ into Shade3D Standard 15, and ran the 3D-Printing utility.  This step caused the model to show its component polygon mesh parts.  I processed each part (I show how in my videos) inside Shade3D, then prepared individual parts for 3D Printing.

Please note: I used a mobile phone video camera to record my activity onscreen, so these are a low-quality videos, so sorry about that. I hope the videos will be of some usefulness to anyone who is interested to develop real world 3D Printed BJD parts.

Shade 3D / How to remove parts of 3D text object ?
« on: July 10, 2015, 10:41:14 PM »
I created a text polygon mesh.  I need to remove those parts which are inside the words (in this case, I have marked them out with arrows in my graphic).  Please advise me what is the procedure for removing those parts ?

Dear Fellow Members, all my work in my renders here are gone.  I could not make the backup on schedule.  Everything I have created is gone.  You are seeing all that is left.

Gallery of Images / Shade3D x Poser X Pepakura
« on: May 02, 2015, 03:07:15 AM »
I used Shade3D to model a high-resolution mesh of an Anime-style Ball-Joint Doll, with the objective of using it inside Poser, as well as to process using Pepakura  to create papercraft templates for real world 1/3 scale doll.  It turns out I needed to reduce the polygon count of the mesh for papercrafting purpose, so now I have a low-resolution version as well.  As for the Poser figure, I rigged it using weight mesh after I had completed the modelling in Shade3D.

I am showing the high resolution version which was modelled in Shade3D and rigged in Poser, the low-resolution version using Shade3D Polygon reduction function for individual parts, and an example of the papercraft template of the back of the head, for my real-world Doll.

Gallery of Images / I usually use Shade3D for creating Poser content
« on: December 15, 2014, 02:06:22 PM »
Hi.

Snowy Steps: I had created an array using a plug-in of SketchUp 2015 free version, and imported the model into Shade14 Standard.  I processed the model using Shade14 - because it performs better than SketchUp free version, for me.  Then I imported the resulting model into Smith Micro's Poser Pro 2014 Game Dev SR5. I created Snowy Steps for Christmas 2014 freebie.  (I usually use Shade3D to create models and hair for use with Poser).

Japanese Visual Kei hair meshes:
I love the hair salon feature of Shade3D !  I have made many visual kei hair styles for use inside Poser. But this forum only allows 3 images for this post.
